Porcelain Veneers FAQs

WHAT ARE PORCELAIN VENEERS?

Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made porcelain shells that cover the front of the unsightly or worn tooth. They are crafted from porcelain which is life-like looking in shape and translucency. Dr. Genetti and Dr. Weierbach have been restoring teeth with veneers since 1987, when they first were introduced in dentistry.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PORCELAIN VENEER AND A PORCELAIN LAMINATE?

They are the same thing, just different terms which are used.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF PORCELAIN VENEERS?

Porcelain veneers are a great way to restore teeth that are crowded, chipped, misshaped, have gaps, poorly positioned, or in general unaesthetic.

They are a conservative way to make a dramatic improvement in your smile.

HOW STRONG ARE PORCELAIN VENEERS?

Porcelain veneers are made of lithium disilicate and are very strong. We will recommend porcelain veneers as the restoration of choice only if your occlusion (bite) is favorable and they are the best restoration for your particular situation.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS LIKE? HOW CAN I BE ASSURED OF A PREDICABLE, BEAUTIFUL RESULT?

After Dr. Genetti or Dr. Weierbach analyzes your smile, (see smile makeover in FAQs on this website) a mockup of your smile may be a great way to “preview” how you will look after your treatment. We then take an impression of your new smile and send it to our laboratory in California where a beautiful temporary is crafted.

The second visit involves shaping your teeth to receive the veneers in such a way as to preserve as much tooth structure as possible while providing a maximum esthetic result. The provisional (temporary) laminates are placed and an impression for your permanent veneers is taken.

You will then view your new smile for a few weeks and see if the temporary veneers are the exact size and shape you would like in your final smile. We utilize beautiful temporaries as a “blueprint” of your finished result to ensure your total satisfaction. Any changes you would like are done to your temporary teeth to make sure you will be pleased.

Once you are satisfied, the permanent veneers are crafted by our laboratory in Minnesota and we see you in approximately three weeks to deliver your permanent veneers.

HOW ARE THE VENEERS APPLIED?

The veneers are bonded to your teeth using permanent resin cement. The process creates a large strong bond so you won’t need to worry about the veneers falling off when you eat, brush or floss.

IS THERE A WAY I CAN SEE BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES OF DR. GENETTI’S AND DR. WEIERBACH’S ACTUAL PATIENTS?

Absolutely!! —- Please go to the video and the before and after gallery on our website. These are all of the actual patients we have had the pleasure to treat.

In addition, at your consultation visit, Drs. Genetti or Weierbach can show you multiple pictures of patients who he has restored with porcelain veneers. These patients have been kind to share their before and after pictures with other patients to see their beautiful results.
